The Struggle with Anxiety and Your DNA

Anxiety Disorders

Many people suffer from depression and anxiety nowadays. Low mood, low self-esteem, and loss of interest or pleasure in enjoyable activities are all symptoms of depression, affecting females twice as often as males, with the most common onset around the 20s.

On the other side, anxiety is the reaction of your body and mind to stressful,  dangerous, or unfamiliar events, manifesting through dread, distress, or uneasiness. There are many anxiety-related disorders, and we can distinguish between three main types:

  1. Anxiety disorders are characterized by an excessive feeling of anxiety or fear as a response to a perceived threat.
  2. Obsessive-compulsive disorders are described by obsessive and intrusive thoughts and repeated/compulsive behaviors.
  3. Trauma or stress-induced anxiety disorder as a consequence of experienced trauma or stressful event.

Anxiety & Your Genetics

Genetics can also influence your susceptibility to anxiety. Although we do not offer to test for generalized anxiety disorder, we encourage you to try our DNA Mental Health kit, where you can check your susceptibility to obsessive-compulsive disorder, a type of anxiety-related behavior.
